Sony is releasing a remake of The Last of Us for the PlayStation 5 on September 2, and the game is also in development for the PC. According to Sony, the game has been “rebuilt from the ground up” and the gameplay has been “modernized.”

Sony calls the remake The Last of Us Part I and the revamped version was created by original developer Naughty Dog. Which developer makes the PC version is not yet clear.

Judging by the visuals, the remake offers a similar graphical quality to The Last of Us Part II. That game originally came out for the PS4 and was updated so that the game runs on the PS5 with a frame rate of 60fps. Sony also promises ‘modernized gameplay’ and extensive accessibility options.

The Last of Us was first released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013. The Last of Us Remastered for the PlayStation 4 followed a year later. The updated version has a suggested retail price of 80 euros and there will be a Deluxe version of 90 euros . Both versions also include the Left Behind expansion, originally released as DLC in early 2014.

Update, 22.12: Sony has formally announced The Last of Us Part I and announced that it will be a standalone multiplayer game.
