Reddit users can now search for comments
Reddit users can now also search for comments on the social media platform instead of just for posts, communities or users. The company announced this on Thursday. Search results are more relevant and from now on also displayed differently.
Reddit announces in a blog post updates to the search engine on the social media platform. First of all, it is now possible for users to search for comments instead of just posts, communities or people on the platform. The search engine addition comes after a Reddit poll last year. It shows that searching for comments on posts was one of the most requested search functionalities. Reddit said it already conducted a test with the new search functionality and it shows that more than 26,000 Reddit users together scanned more than 5 billion comments on the platform in search of their desired search result.
The Reddit search results page will now look different on the desktop browser and smartphones. The new design should look simpler according to the company and prioritize posts. Reddit has also tinkered with its search algorithm itself. From now on, the text entered in searches will be interpreted less strictly so that more relevant search results are shown. Users searching for a popular topic with many possible results will see the latest search results first. In this way, the social media platform always wants to be able to provide up-to-date search results.
Finally, Reddit will also take into account the preceding ‘success’ of a search result. If a search result has already generated a lot of clicks and interactions, this result will be ranked higher in the search results.
