Reddit user builds PC with custom water cooling and built-in screen in case
A clever head has built a water-cooled PC in a Pelican case. Affectionately known as The Nuclear Football, the PC is fully cooled by a single 240mm Alphacool UT60 radiator and has a built-in 23″ screen.
Nuclear Football was created by a PC mud who goes by the name thegarbz online. The PC contains a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super, 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory and a 256GB NVME SSD from Western Digital, the maker reports on Reddit. The itx motherboard used is a B450-i Aorus Pro Wifi from Gigabyte. The screen is a Dell P2319H, which is incorporated in the top half of the case without the monitor base. Thegarbz also uses a Corsair sfx power supply.
The water cooling setup is largely from Alphacool, with a 240mm radiator 60mm thick, a DDC310 pump and a small Eisdecke reservoir for the coolant. The CPU is cooled with a Classic Supremacy water block from EKWB and the GPU is equipped with an RTX 2080 Super water block from the same company. According to thegarbz, the PC reaches temperatures of 72 degrees Celsius on the CPU and 58 degrees Celsius on the GPU under load. That is ‘a bit warm’, writes the mod maker.
According to the maker, this all fits flawlessly in a Pelican 1525 case, including the 23″ screen. Thegarbz states that research was done on 45 monitors for the project, and that the Dell P2319H was the only monitor with bezels that small enough. has one and one buttons that are usable when the whole thing is in the case Thegarbz also made an acrylic plate to place on top of the components This raises the CPU temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius, but at the same time turns out the VRMs are 4 degrees cooler , because more air is forced through the case.
In total, the maker says he worked on the project for about six months. In addition, a mount for a keyboard and mouse will be added in the future, but this requires a 3d printer. The maker is currently using Nuclear Football in a hotel, where the staff “didn’t even look up” when the colossus was taken out, as thegarbz says it is a regular guest there.
