Reddit is making its own app for iOS and Android
Reddit is going to release its own app for iOS and Android. Users can now only read Reddit through third-party apps. The company started a closed beta test for the Android application on Friday. It is unknown when the apps will become publicly available.
Because it is a closed test, Reddit has not put the installation file publicly online and the company has also had it removed from the APKMirror site. The iOS version of the app will follow soon, says director Steve Huffman.
Reddit seems to be building the iOS app from the ground up. The company took over Reddit app AlienBlue some time ago, but Huffman reports in the comments that the Reddit app is not a further development of AlienBlue. Users of the app complain about constant errors when logging in, but Huffman reports that Reddit has made “five updates” for AlienBlue. Reddit also once made an ama app for iOS.
Until now, Reddit was only accessible through third-party apps. Huffman only lists iOS and Android and no other mobile platforms, such as Windows 10 Mobile.
