Red Hat has donated $10,000 to the makers of live streaming software Open Broadcaster Software. It is one of the largest donations to the project to date. It is not yet known what OBS Studios will do with the money.

The donation of $10,000, equivalent to about $8,800, was given through the Open Collective project that OBS uses to raise money. This is a one-time donation. OBS calls it a ‘generous donation’. It is the fifth highest donation given to the project to date.

Open Broadcaster Studios makes the Open Broadcaster Software. That is software that allows Windows and macOS as well as Linux users to live stream or record their games. Especially for the latter platform, OBS is seen as one of the most popular software packages. It is an open source program. The makers say that the next release for Linux is moving away from a PPA archive. In version 27.2 the download will be available as a flatpak file.
