Red Hat acquires devops company Ansible – update
Red Hat has acquired devops software company Ansible. According to previous rumors, it is an amount of 100 million dollars. The acquisition of the server management company was announced on Friday.
Red Hat has confirmed the acquisition, following previous rumors that Venturebeat wrote about. The first stable release of Ansible was released in 2012 by Michael DeHaen as an open source platform for configuring and maintaining computers and networks. The company Ansible Inc. was founded in March 2013. The software combines the ability to distribute applications to multiple nodes via, for example, a Docker container, perform ad hoc tasks and maintain configurations of the different nodes.
The nodes themselves do not need to have the application installed, so no additional processing power or memory needs to be used by daemons in the background. The company makes money from support and it paid for Ansible Tower, which quickly made the platform gain popularity. In addition, the basic functionality is also available free of charge.
The current CEO and co-founder of Ansible Inc. Saïd Ziouani previously worked for Red Hat in the sales and business development department. The acquisition of Ansible by Red Hat fits in with Red Hat’s own company profile, especially since Ansible is already integrated into Red Hat’s OpenShift, OpenStack and Red Hat Enterprise Linux via the repositories.
