Red Dead Redemption 2 lets you hunt two hundred animal species

Red Dead Redemption 2 is not just a game where you make a career in the Van der Linde gang. Apart from the storyline, you can also fully enjoy yourself as a hunter. The game contains two hundred kinds of animals, from mammals to birds and fish.

In an update on the Red Dead Redemption 2 website, Rockstar makes it clear that the two hundred animal species can all be caught and that each species behaves differently, often depending on the environment. Large grazers like bison, deer and bucks move in large herds across the prairie, salmon leap above the river trying to swim against the current, and geese fly overhead in neat formations. Wolves move in packs trying to circle their prey, rodents try to retreat into a den and keep themselves dead. A grizzly bear can make a mock attack to scare you away and birds of prey fly high in the sky in search of carrion.

Hunting for game is useful because it provides protagonist Arthur Morgan not only with food, but also with income. Hunting the wild animals is therefore not always easy. It takes practice and patience, according to Rockstar. For example, the wind direction is an important factor. If you approach an animal with tailwind, it can pick up your scent and run away. And also, your first shot can’t be immediately fatal, then your prey will flee, after which you can follow the blood trail to finish the job. Once you’ve killed an animal, you can skin and slaughter it. You can do that on the spot, but you can also load the animal onto your horse and finish the job elsewhere. When hunting, your equipment is also important. For best results, kill the animal with a weapon of the correct caliber. only then will you get the best meat and the most unblemished skin. You can use hides and meat yourself, but you can also sell it.

Developer Rockstar is releasing details about the game’s wildlife on the game’s website. According to Rockstar, the whole forms a closed ecosystem, which offers the player both opportunities and danger. The hunter can easily become the prey in the game, if we are to believe the developer. Horses are a special part of the fauna. There are nineteen different types, all of which you can learn to ride. You can catch and tame a horse, although there are of course less legal ways to catch an already tamed horse.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and Rockstar will probably release more information about the game before then.
