Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the works. The game is set to release in Fall 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On Thursday, the developer will show a first trailer for the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be an “epic story set in brutal America” ​​according to the makers, and that “atmospheric world” will also form the basis for an “all-new multiplayer experience”. It is not yet clear what exactly this means. Red Dead Redemption also had a multiplayer mode. Rockstar has set up a website where information about the new game will appear. At the moment there is an image there and the message that a trailer will be shown on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The announcement comes just days after Rockstar started posting teasers on its website and social media channels. There have been rumors for a long time about the arrival of a successor to western game Red Dead Redemption. In April, a map of what would be the game world of the new game appeared via the NeoGAF forum. Techradar then said it had received confirmation from an anonymous source that it is indeed the map of a new Red Dead game and that the game will be a prequel. This information has not yet been confirmed by Rockstar’s announcement, but the trailer that comes out Thursday may provide more details.

The first installment in the series, Red Dead Revolver, was released for PS2 in 2004 and re-released for PS4 last week. The second part, Red Dead Redemption, was released in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

For now, the new game seems to be only in the works for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although it is likely that the game will also be optimized for the PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s Project Scorpio, the faster version of the Xbox One that will be released at the end of 2017. will come out.
