Recon combines paintball mask with heads-up display
Recon will demonstrate a system consisting of a paintball mask, heads-up display, wearable, GoPro and app at CES in Las Vegas. On the display in the mask, players can see a map with their team members on it.
The Recon Snow2 heads-up display is integrated into the Empire EVS helmet from Empire Paintball, presenting the user with a screen that would be comparable to a 14″ display at a distance of one and a half meters. The display is located at the bottom right of the mask and is therefore not obtrusive in view, but players do have to point their eyes downwards to see the images on the screen, causing them to be distracted for a while, but the images are displayed clear and sharp.
The screen not only shows a map with the locations of team members, but also, for example, the remaining amount of ammunition and the location of the home base and that of the opponent. The display can be adjusted with a wearable. Recon also demonstrated a combination with a GoPro mounted on the barrel of a paintball gun and controlled via the wearable.
The system runs on Android and contains a dual core with a clock speed of 1GHz. In addition, a nine-axis motion sensor and support for Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and GPS are available. The price and availability are not yet known. Recon has been part of Intel since June last year.
