Rdio will stop taking on new customers on November 23

Rdio has announced that from November 23 it will no longer be possible to take out a subscription to the music streaming service. Existing users will be transitioned to the free version, which they can use while it’s still in the air; Rdio is being sold to Pandora.

Rdio announces on its website that it will discontinue its services. In concrete terms, it will no longer be possible to take out a subscription from next week, namely on November 23. Existing users will automatically cancel their subscription; they retain access to the paid service until the date paid for. After that, all users should continue with the free version of Rdio. This will be kept in the air for some time.

When the free version of Rdio will be discontinued is not yet clear, but it will probably be in the coming weeks. The exact date depends on the acquisition by Pandora. Users will soon receive more information about when the Rdio service will be discontinued. They also receive information about exporting their data, such as playlists and favorite songs.

Earlier this week, Pandora announced that it is acquiring large parts of Rdio, with the latter filing for bankruptcy. Starting next year, with the help of the acquisition, Pandora plans to launch a similar music streaming service to Rdio. The intention is that users can start playing individual music tracks, something that is not yet possible with the radio service Pandora. The acquisition involves an amount of 75 million dollars, converted 70.4 million euros.
