Razer is going to put its Project Hazel mouth mask concept into production. According to the CEO of the company, mouth masks will be needed for a long time and the company therefore wants to market the ‘smart’ mouth mask.

Razer showed a concept of the mask during the virtual edition of CES 2021. The company suspects that it will remain a relevant product for the foreseeable future and will start producing the mask. “Disposable face masks are not environmentally friendly, but face masks will still be needed after the pandemic ends. That is why we are going to put this smart mouth mask into production,” said Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan in an interview.

In addition to built-in RGB lighting, Razer’s mouth mask concept, called Project Hazel, also includes interchangeable fans that act as voice amplifiers, in combination with built-in microphones. The mask is also made of recycled and scratch-resistant plastic with a transparent front, so that facial expressions are easier to read. The concept also included a storage box that should sterilize the mouth mask using UV lights.

Razer has not yet announced a release date or price at the time of its announcement. It is not clear whether the production model will actually be identical to the concept. Like the Project Hazel concept, if the company wants to classify the mask as an N95 face mask in which a filter filters 95 percent of the inhaled air, it must seek approval from the US Federal Drug Administration and other US government agencies.
