Razer starts sales of compact gaming keyboard with RGB lighting
Razer announces the start of sales of a mechanical gaming keyboard with multicolored backlight. The BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma has Razer’s ‘own’ mechanical switches. The compact input device without a numpad costs 170 euros.
Razer promises that the keyboard can be carried easily due to its compact form factor. In addition to the numpad, the keyboard also lacks the row of extra function keys on the left that is present on the larger BlackWidow keyboards. The USB cable can be disconnected and Razer also provides a carrying case for transport. The weight is 950g.
Behind every key of the Blackwidow Tournament Edition Chroma is an RGB LED. As a result, the backlight can display a total of 16.8 million colors, according to Razer. Lighting effects can be set per key using the Razer Synapse 2.0 software. The program can also be used to record macros. Razer previously released a compact mechanical keyboard, the Blackwidow Tournament Edition, but it didn’t have RGB backlighting.
Razer claims to use its own mechanical switches for the input device, which are reportedly purchased from the Chinese manufacturer Kailhua. According to Razer, they are specifically designed for gaming. The keyboard supports 10-key rollover, allowing ten keys to be pressed simultaneously without ghosting. The keyboard is now for sale for 170 euros in the Razer web store. The first shipping date is April 22.
