Razer releases lightweight Viper gaming mouse with optical switches for 90 euros

Razer releases a gaming mouse that uses optical switches for the mouse buttons instead of mechanical ones. According to Razer, this improves click speed. The ambidextrous mouse weighs 69 grams, making it much lighter than many popular gaming mice.

Razer uses proprietary optical switches for the Viper. According to the manufacturer, they are three times as fast as mechanical switches. The switches work with a beam of infrared light. There is a shutter in the mouse buttons and when pressed, this interrupts the light beam, in order to register a mouse click.

The Razer Viper weighs 69 grams, which is very light compared to other popular wired mice for gamers. For example, Razer’s own Naga Trinity and Logitech’s G502 weigh about 120 grams. According to Razer, the weight is low because the mouse does not have an inner skeleton. The design is ambidextrous and therefore suitable for both left and right-handers.

The mouse contains a Razer 5G sensor with a resolution of 16,000 dpi. The cord is a Razer Speedflex Cable, according to the manufacturer it has a low resistance and the cable is therefore less likely to stick to something. The gaming mouse has eight programmable buttons that can be set via the Razer Synapse 3 software.

Razer says it has developed the Viper in collaboration with e-athletes and that is also the target group for the light gaming mouse. The Viper is for sale for a suggested retail price of ninety euros.
