Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PC does not yet support ray tracing on AMD GPUs
Insomniac released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PC on July 26, but initially without ray tracing support on systems with an AMD GPU. The developer says he is working with AMD to support the technology later.
On a support page gives Insomniac no further details on the lack of ray tracing support on AMD graphics cards. It just says: “Ray tracing on AMD GPUs is at release [van Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart op de pc] switched off. We are working closely with AMD to provide support as soon as possible.” The company does not indicate when this should happen.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was originally released on PlayStation 5 in June 2021 and is therefore also available for PC at the time of writing. For ray tracing, the developer recommends using at least an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 in combination with DLSS. At the bottom of the image above, the developer highlights that information about ray tracing support for AMD GPUs will be added soon.
In addition to ray tracing, the game also supports Microsoft’s DirectStorage 1.2 technology, which means that assets are decompressed not by the CPU, but by the GPU. Thanks to the latest version of the technology, an SSD is not required, although Insomniac recommends an SSD for gamers who want to play the game at least at 60fps in 1080p on the medium preset.
