Raspberry shows official housing for the Raspberry Pi

Raspberry has released an official case for the Raspberry Pi. The whole process took a lot longer than initially thought, but in the end a design was made that the Raspberry foundation is happy with. The chassis costs 6 pounds, about 8.30 euros.

According to a blog by Gordon Hollingworth of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the case has been in the works for over two years. The predominantly white housing with red accents has space for all connections that the gem possesses. The cover can be removed to give access to the mini-computer through an opening.

In the end, three basic designs remained from which various prototypes were made. Naturally, there was collaboration with the community and other end users during the design process. Because the computer is so small, many had already devised and implemented their own designs.

3D prints were made of the different models and finally the model was chosen after months of refining, so everything had to be able to be assembled without special tools. After the design was chosen, a company was sought to produce the case in larger quantities by means of injection molding, a way to produce molds in plastic quickly in large quantities.

The case is available through the Raspberrypi store for £6.
