Raspberry Pi users get access to Sony’s AI camera platform Aitrios
Sony Semiconductor Solutions has invested an undisclosed amount in Raspberry Pi and wants to make its Aitrios machine learning platform available to Raspberry Pi users. Aitrios allows users to perform AI tasks with cameras.
The agreement appears to be mainly aimed at business users and will allow these users and developers to develop visual sensing applications with the Aitrios platform, says Raspberry Pi’s CEO Eben Upton to CNBC. This platform uses IMX500 sensors and allows companies, for example, to… manage stocks, count customers or recognize license plates.
Raspberry Pi and Sony already had agreements for, for example, making Raspberry Pi products and supplying cameras. With the new agreement and additional investment, Sony’s AI products will becomeadded to the Raspberry Pi ecosystem‘.
Sony’s Aitrios platform is an edge platform, where as much data processing as possible takes place on the hardware itself and not on external servers. Upton notes that today, 70 percent of Raspberry Pi sales are from enterprises, and some customers are experimenting with machine learning with Pi devices. With the renewed collaboration and the link with the Aitrios platform, these users could do more with this, says the CEO. The Aitrios cameras are not available to consumers.
