In China, Radeon HD 4830 cards with 800 instead of the usual 640 stream processors have appeared in stores. This means that the difference with the more expensive HD 4850 has been reduced to the lower clock speeds.

The HD 4830, which has 800 stream processors, is for sale in a number of Chinese web shops, reports Preview. The cards would come from Sapphire, Powercolor and Tripex. The cards are clocked at the standard speeds, but after a simple overclock the HD 4830 can perform the same as an HD 4850.

Whether it is a production error or a one-off batch of HD 4830s with 800 stream processors is not yet clear. At the end of 2008 there was still a row about HD 4830s that had too few stream processors on board.

The HD 4830 is a slightly stripped down version of the HD 4850. The clock speeds of the GPU and the memory of 575MHz and 900MHz respectively are slightly lower than with the HD 4850. The biggest difference is the number of stream processors, which are 640 instead of 800. is. The memory bus has been left intact and is still 256bit wide. The gpu is named RV770le, which was initially assumed to be a different gpu from the RV770 or a disabled RV770, some of which stream processors did not work.
