Quest 2 and Quest Pro get speed updates, Quest 2 becomes cheaper
Meta is working on a software update for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro that should make the CPU and GPU faster. Users can therefore get smoother games and faster interfaces. The Quest 2 will also be cheaper.
The CPUs of both headsets should be up to 26 percent faster after the update. The GPU speed gain with the Quest 2 will be a maximum of 19 percent; with the Quest Pro this should be 11 percent. Meta says not how it achieved these speed gains or when users can expect the update.
Apart from faster and smoother software, Meta says it can activate Dynamic Resolution Scaling on both headsets. Apps and games must be able to display a higher resolution without this being at the expense of the frame rate.
Finally, Meta announces the second price reduction of the year for the Quest 2. The 256GB version goes from $430 to $350, while the 128GB variant drops from $400 to $300. Converted with VAT, the 256GB version will cost 394 euros and the 128GB version will cost 338 euros. This price reduction will take effect on June 4. Meta announced the price reduction and speed increase at its presentation of the Quest 3, which should be released this fall for $499.
