Quantic Dream is working on a game based on PS4 tech demo The Dark Sorcerer
Developer Quantic Dream is rumored to be working on a game based on a tech demo the studio made for Sony in 2013. That demo, titled The Dark Sorcerer, was supposed to show what the PlayStation 4 was capable of at the time.
According to Twitter user AccountNGT Quantic Dream is working with a team in Paris on a humorous game based on the 2013 tech demo. The game would have a non-linear story that could influence players. That concept is reminiscent of other games from the developer, such as Detroit: Become Human. The story is said to have been written by David Cage, founder of the studio. Leaker Tom Henderson also says he heard about the project and states it is codenamed Dreamland.
Sony showed The Dark Sorcerer in 2013 at the E3 game show. The tech demo was made by Quantic Dream on behalf of the PlayStation maker. The video of more than twelve minutes was supposed to demonstrate what the PlayStation 4 was capable of. These were images rendered in real time, but Sony emphasized at the time that it was a concept and that there were no plans to develop an actual game.
Quantic Dream itself has not announced anything about a game based on The Dark Sorcerer. It has been known since the end of last year that the studio is working on Star Wars Eclipse. That will be an action-adventure game with a branching story. AccountNGT, which is now releasing the details about the new game, also shared the news that Quantic Dream was working on it before the official announcement of the Star Wars game and also showed the first screenshots.
Quantic Dream has been around since 1997 and became known for games commissioned by Sony, such as 2010’s Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls from 2013, and Detroit: Become Human from 2018. The studio was financed by Sony for twelve years and in that period, games were released exclusively for PlayStation consoles. The studio has had other investors for several years and in 2019 that exclusivity came to an end.
