Qualcomm has announced a new soc for midrange smartphones. The Snapdragon 675 supports three cameras and is the direct successor of the Snapdragon 670. Samsung produces the new soc at 11nm, while the predecessor was 10nm.

The Snapdragon 675 has according to Qualcomm a total of eight processor cores indicated by the Kryo 460 microarchitecture. It is a relatively new architecture where it mainly revolves around the use of two fast Cortex A76 cores that run at 2.0 GHz. They are assisted by six more efficient A55 cores with a speed of 1.8 GHz. These six economical cores are clocked a bit higher than in the Snapdragon 670 .

Compared to the Snapdragon 670, the new soc should lead to apps that start 15 percent faster and up to 35 percent in performance gains, according to Qualcomm for internet browsing. Probably the Snapdragon 675 will also be slightly faster than the higher positioned Snapdragon 710 .

Probably Qualcomm plays with the Snapdragon 675 on the development that high-end features not only to find the most expensive flagship telephones to be. For example, the image signal processor of the new soc support for three cameras.

Furthermore, so-called ‘gaming enhancements’ are built in. It is not clear what that means. There is also support for Quick Charge 4+ and improved ai support. The latter, for example, should lead to a faster face release.
