Qualcomm to unveil high-end Snapdragon 8150 soc likely on December 4
American chip designer Qualcomm has sent out invitations to an event in Hawaii. This shows that the company will hold a keynote on December 4, during which new products will be presented. It will probably include the Snapdragon 8150 soc.
The Chinese website PCPop, among others, shows images of the invitation to Qualcomm’s annual Tech Summit, which takes place on the Hawaiian island of Maui. This multi-day event will have a keynote on 4 December. It is in line with expectations that the Snapdragon 8150 will be presented there. Recently, there was already a rumor that the chip designer’s new high-end soc would be presented on December 4. Midrange socs like the Snapdragon 7150 and 6150 will probably only be presented next year.
The Snapdragon 8150 will be the successor to the Snapdragon 845, which is now in many high-end smartphones. It is still unknown what the specifications of the new soc will be, but according to rumors, it is a design with three clusters, just like the Kirin 980 from Huawei and the recently introduced Samsung Exynos 9820. The Snapdragon 8150 will probably be Qualcomm’s first soc to be made at 7nm, as Qualcomm previously indicated that the upcoming high-end soc will be a 7nm chip. Huawei also has the Kirin 980 made on a 7nm process, at TSMC; Samsung makes the Exynos 9820 on its own 8nm process.
