Qualcomm submits EUR 1.34 billion guarantee for German iPhone sales ban
Qualcomm pushes ahead to enforce a ban on the supply of iPhones in Germany. The manufacturer has pledged 1.34 billion euros as collateral for such a ban, as demanded by the court.
According to German media such as Focus, Qualcomm has announced that it has deposited 1.34 billion euros as a guarantee, thus starting the ban on the sale of iPhones in Germany. The ban concerns the sale of the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus and 7 Plus in Germany.
The Munich court ruled on the ban on December 20, with the condition that Qualcomm must deposit a deposit of 668.4 million euros per part of the ruling. It is still unclear what the scope of the ban will be. Apple obtained the models in question from its own fifteen German stores, but Qualcomm believes that all suppliers should stop selling the devices.
The ban is the result of a patent case won by Qualcomm. The Munich court has accepted the claim that a chip in the iPhones infringes a hardware patent from Qualcomm. Apple is appealing the ruling. The iPhone Xr and Xs are not covered by the ban.
