Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 865 Plus, an improved variant of the Snapdragon 865. The new soc will receive support for faster WiFi and Bluetooth connections and CPU and GPU cores that are up to ten percent faster than with the 865-soc.

The Kryo 585 CPU of the 865 Plus soc is clocked at 3.1GHz, which according to Qualcomm is 10 percent higher than the regular Snapdragon 865. The maximum clock speed of the regular Snapdragon 865 CPU is 2.84GHz. The Adreno 650 GPU has also received unknown upgrades, which could allow it to render 10 percent faster than the chip in the regular Snapdragon 865.

The 865 Plus soc is compatible with the FastConnect 6900 chip, which supports more WiFi and Bluetooth connections than the regular 865 soc allows. For example, the 6900 chip can handle WiFi 6e, which makes connections on the 6GHz frequency band possible. With the new chip, according to Qualcomm, Wi-Fi speeds of up to 3.6 Gbit/s are possible. The 6900 chip can also handle bluetooth 5.2.

Like the regular Snapdragon 865-soc, the 865 Plus does not have an integrated 5g modem and is compatible with the Snapdragon X55 chip for a 5g connection. The Asus ROG Phone 3 and new “mobile gaming devices in the Lenovo Legion series” will get the Snapdragon 865 Plus soc. These two devices were previously said to be getting the regular Snapdragon 865 soc. Qualcomm expects more companies to announce devices with the new soc in the third quarter of this year.
