Qualcomm: smartphones with Snapdragon 820 will be released next year
Smartphones with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820-soc won’t be released until next year. That’s what the processor designer said. It seems that the new Nexus devices do not have Snapdragon 820 on board.
Qualcomm will have its soc ready in time for the major releases next spring, for the successors of the LG G4, HTC One M9 and possibly the successor of the Samsung Galaxy S6, if that manufacturer decides to build in a Qualcomm soc again. . The S6 is equipped with an Exynos soc from Samsung itself. So unless the new Nexuses also appear next year, they will most likely not include a Snapdragon 820, despite recent rumors about it.
The processor designer announced more details about its upcoming high-end soc on Wednesday. The Adreno 530 GPU should offer a performance improvement of 40 percent, while the power consumption with the same load should have decreased by 40 percent compared to the Adreno 430 from the Snapdragon 810. The Adreno 530 can drive UHD images and has support for HDMI 2.0. The GPU also has support for Vulkan. In addition, the soc has a Spectra isp, which must ensure the processing of camera images.
Qualcomm also mentioned the Adreno 510 that will end up in the Snapdragon 618 and 620. All new processors no longer have Cortex processor cores on board, but Qualcomm has made its own 64bit microarchitecture. The current Snapdragon 810 still contains Cortex A57 and A53 cores.
