The American chip designer Qualcomm has answered the earlier complaint by Apple with its own claims. The company wants damages for broken agreements and wants Apple to stop meddling in agreements between Qualcomm and iPhone and iPad manufacturers.

The chip designer announces that it has now submitted its answers and its own claims. The company claims the documents show Apple breached agreements, interfered with Qualcomm licensees who make iPads and iPhones, and incited regulators to “attack” the chip designer. In addition, Apple allegedly failed to take full advantage of the performance of Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 7 and misrepresented the performance differences between the modems and those of competitors.

Qualcomm vice president and attorney Don Rosenberg said “Apple couldn’t have built the iPhone franchise that has made it one of the most profitable companies in the world without Qualcomm engineering.” He went on to say, “Apple has launched a global attack on Qualcomm and is seeking to use its vast market power to enforce unfair and unreasonable licensing terms.”

Apple sued Qualcomm in January for allegedly violating rules in licensing its patents. That’s why the Cupertino company wants Qualcomm to pay back a billion dollars and have a number of patents declared invalid. According to Apple, Qualcomm is abusing its monopoly on the market for mobile chips.
