The American Qualcomm has announced the successor to the Snapdragon 820 soc under the name Snapdragon 821. According to the company, this soc offers a performance gain of about ten percent compared to the previous version.

Two of the four Kryo cores have a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz, compared to the 2.15GHz of the 820. The clock speed of the two slower Kryo cores is not yet disclosed by the maker. Nothing is known about the GPU either, but Anandtech reports that it is an Adreno GPU with presumably a slightly higher clock speed.

Qualcomm does not elaborate on further differences between the socs, only mentioning that in the 821, also known as MSM8996 Pro, it uses the same X12 modem as in the previous version. Qualcomm announced the 820 in November 2015, and that soc can be found in several models from device manufacturers, including the HTC 10, LG G5, Xiaomi Mi5, Sony Xperia X Performance and OnePlus 3.

The Snapdragon 821 will be in devices that should appear between now and the end of the year. Devices previously associated with the 821 include Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 and various Nexus devices from HTC.
