Chipmaker Qualcomm has signed a global licensing deal with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu. As a result, the pending patent cases against the Chinese company will expire.

The American Qualcomm had filed the lawsuits, because Meizu would infringe its patents for 3G and 4G. The Wall Street Journal reports that it is not known what value the new agreement between the two companies represents. Meizu CEO Bai Yongxiang said the deal is of “tremendous value” to its users and shareholders.

Qualcomm struck a similar deal with Chinese smartphone maker Gionee earlier this week, according to the paper. The chipmaker now says it has deals with the ten largest smartphone manufacturers in China.

This week it was announced that Qualcomm has received a fine of 815 million euros in South Korea. This was imposed by the competition regulator, because the American company licensed its patents under bad conditions. The regulator also wants the company to adjust its trading practices. Qualcomm said it will appeal the decision.
