Qualcomm has announced the FastConnect 6900 and 6700, smartphone chipsets with support for Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2. The chipsets will appear in the second half of this year, after which smartphone manufacturers can integrate them into devices.

The FastConnect 6900 chipset offers WiFi speeds of up to 3.6Gbit/s, according to Qualcomm. The chipset achieves such speeds thanks to the support for Wi-Fi 6e. The Wi-Fi Alliance announced the e-expansion to Wi-Fi 6, or the 802.11ax protocol, early this year. The extension allows devices to use the 6GHz frequency band, in addition to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

According to Qualcomm, the FastConnect 6900 can use multiple frequency bands simultaneously, including 6GHz, with four streams. FastConnect 6700 lacks that support for dual band simultaneous and partly because of this comes to a maximum WiFi speed of 3Gbit/s. Both chipsets support a channel width of 160MHz. Qualcomm has the chipsets produced at 14nm.

The chipsets also support bluetooth 5.2. The most important improvement that this standard brings is the arrival of LE Audio. It uses the lc3 codec for high-quality audio with little complex calculations, which should lead to a reduction in consumption. A smartphone with the chipset can also send audio to multiple speakers and headphones, and there is also a broadcast option.
