Qualcomm Announces Gen 1 Socs for Snapdragon 6 and 4
Qualcomm announces new SOCs for midrange devices. It is a new Snapdragon Gen 1 soc for both Qualcomm’s 6 and 4 series. Motorola was the first to announce that it will launch new devices that use the new socs.
Qualcomm previously announced Gen 1 socs for the Snapdragon 8 and 7 series. These are chips that are used in the more high-end devices of smartphone manufacturers. The announced Snapdragon Gen 1 6 and 4 series should support the middle segment of smartphones.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 succeeds the 695 5G. With that, Qualcomm sticks to its earlier decision to simplify the names of its SOCs and instead of using three digits, only indicate the series and the generation. According to the manufacturer, the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 can take better photos because the soc is equipped with Qualcomm’s Spectra isp. The soc must be able to take pictures of 200 megapixels. The new Snapdragon 6 should also provide better performance during gaming. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon Gen 1 can render 35 percent faster than the 695 5G.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 also gets an upgrade compared to its predecessor the 480 5G. According to Qualcomm, the CPU is 15 percent faster and the GPU is up to 10 percent faster than the previous generation. The Snapdragon 4 also gets the Spectra isp and should be able to take 108-megapixel photos.
According to AnandTech to get the Snapdragon 6 and 4 Gen1 don’t upgrade to the Armv9 cores like the high-end Gen 1 socs. This means that these midrange SOCs are still lagging behind the high-end platforms of Snapdragon, which have already switched to the new architecture.
