Qualcomm and Google are working on RISC-V SoC for Wear OS devices
Qualcomm and Google are working on a RISC-V-Snapdragon Wear platform for future Wear OS smartwatches and other wearables. It is not yet clear when the first products should appear. The companies do say that these products will appear worldwide.
The companies talk about powerful custom CPUs with low consumption and say they are working on making apps and other software work with the RISC-V SoCs. Qualcomm expects the RISC-V Socs to “rapidly” grow the Wear OS ecosystem and make it easier to release new devices. RISC-V is an open source instruction set architecture that Intel, NXP, Bosch, Infineon and other companies are working on in addition to Qualcomm. Android has supported RISC-V processors since this year.
