QNAP Releases Virtualization Station for Various NAS Models
QNAP has announced Virtualization Station for a large number of business NAS models. Using this hypervisor, up to eight operating systems can be virtualized side by side on a Turbo NAS system.
Virtualization Station can be installed on a compatible NAS via the QTS App Center. The virtualization software can then be controlled via the browser. For example, it is possible to import and export virtual machines, for example from services such as BitNami and VMware. The user can also quickly create a new one using templates. The virtual desktops can also be controlled within the browser interface.
QNAP also states that there is a snapshot function to ‘freeze’ the state of a virtual machine to restart it later or to revert to a previously created snapshot. There is also central user management to determine who has access to virtual machines.
The software runs on various Turbo NAS models aimed at the business market. These are models from the TS-ECx80 Pro, TS-ECx80U-RP, TS-ECx79U-RP, TS-x79U-RP, TS-ECx79U-SAS-RP,
SS-ECx79U-SAS-RP, TS-x51 and TS/SS-x53 Pro series. Nas systems in which the maximum amount of memory is installed, with the top models up to 32GB, can run up to eight virtual machines side by side. As possible application areas for Virtualization Station, QNAP lists running multiple web servers in parallel, remote desktops, or providing mail servers separately among other business applications.
