QNAP announced new NAS systems at the Computex trade show in Taiwan. The models will get a dual-core Celeron processor instead of an Atom CPU that is in previous QNAP NAS models.

The NAS models in the new TS-X51 series are available with eight, six, four or two drive bays. QNAP has equipped the NAS systems with a dual-core Intel Celeron CPU. It is clocked at 2.4GHz and is based on the Bay Trail architecture. This processor is significantly faster than the Atom D2700 CPUs found in QNAP’s previous NAS systems.

QNAP supplies the NAS systems in two variants: a ‘cheap’ version with 1GB of RAM and a more expensive edition with 4GB of ram. The systems in the TS-X51 series can have a maximum of 8GB of RAM. There are two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 connections.

According to QNAP, the new NAS systems are the first on the market to offer virtualization capabilities. For example, a user can run their own servers. There is also a possibility to remotely store data on the NAS systems. An HDMI output is also available and XBMC 12 is installed on the X51 series as standard. QNAP has not yet made any announcements regarding pricing and availability.
