QNAP Powers AMD Processor TS-563 Turbo NAS
QNAP has released a business-oriented 5-bay NAS that features a quad-core AMD processor. The NAS is expandable with 10Gb Ethernet and can be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM.
The TS-563 Turbo features an AMD Embedded G-Series, a quad-core processor clocked at 2GHz. QNAP supplies the NAS with 2GB or 8GB of RAM as standard, but there is room for a maximum of 16GB. The five drive bays support SATA 600 drives of up to 8TB, for a gross storage of 40TB.
QNAP states that the NAS can optionally be equipped with two 10Gb Ethernet connections through a PCI-e Express expansion slot. By default, there are two gigabit Ethernet ports on the device. The manufacturer mentions read and write speeds of up to 1506MB/s. When aes encryption is enabled, the speed drops to 1421MB/s.
Because the TS-563 Turbo supports AMD-V virtualization technology, multiple virtual machines can be run on the NAS. There is also an optional Surveilance Station module to store camera images, supporting up to 40 IP cameras. In addition, up to two expansion enclosures can be attached to the TS-563, increasing storage to 21 drives, or 168TB when using 8TB drives. QNAP states that the TS-563 Turbo will be released in a few weeks. The company has not yet announced prices.
