Qnap lets HTC Vive run on nas
We came across many VR glasses at previous tech fairs such as CES, but now that the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are freely available, every manufacturer wants to show how well its hardware works in combination with VR glasses. Even nas builder Qnap shows an HTC Vive at its booth.
Qnap demonstrates the HTC Vive on its TVS-882 NAS, one of the fastest NAS the company sells. In the most expensive version, the nas is equipped with a Core i5-6500 processor and 16GB of RAM, while two PCIe slots are also available. You can of course use those slots for a thunderbolt or 10/40Gbe controller, but video cards are also supported.
In this case, Qnap has built in an AMD R9 Nano video card. The software of the NAS runs a virtual machine with a Windows installation inside, so that you can play games. The VR glasses are connected to the USB connections of the NAS and the HDMI connection is linked to the video card, making gaming possible without any problems. Among all the case, power supply and fan manufacturers clamoring for their product to be ‘VR-ready’, we really appreciated this demonstration from Qnap.
