QNAP Announces TS-x53 Pro NAS Systems with Quad-core Celeron CPUs
QNAP has announced a number of NAS models in the TS-x53 Pro series that feature quad-core Celeron CPUs. The NAS systems, which are mainly aimed at the business market, are available with two, four, six and eight drive bays.
In June, QNAP already announced new models in the TS-x51 series equipped with Celeron CPUs at the Computex fair, while previously the NAS manufacturer opted for less powerful Atom CPUs. Unlike the dual-core CPUs of the TS-x51 models, QNAP has equipped the four new storage systems in the TS-x53 Pro series with quad-core Celeron J1900 processors. These are clocked at 2GHz and offer a turbo of 2.41GHz.
The NAS systems are available with two, four, six and eight drive bays. Depending on the model, 2GB or 8GB DDR3 RAM is available as standard. The TS-253 Pro with two drive bays offers the user two gigabit Ethernet connections, the other models have four network connections. The NAS systems also have three USB 3.0 inputs and an HDMI output.
QNAP targets the business market with the x53 Pro series. For example, QVM Desk offers the possibility to run virtual machines on the NAS and Defense Desk can manage and store recordings from security cameras. Furthermore, Local Display Desk provides access to various apps, including XBMC and Chrome, via an X-Windows session.
The manufacturer mentions maximum read and write speeds of up to 430MB/s. The total storage capacity of the NAS systems can also be increased by connecting the UX-500P and UX-800P expansion towers to the USB 3.0 ports. These offer four and eight additional drive bays, respectively. QNAP has not yet made any announcements about pricing.
