Portkey Games has postponed Hogwarts Legacy to 2022. This RPG set in the Harry Potter universe was actually supposed to be released sometime this year. It is not entirely clear why the game is being postponed.

In a statement shared on Twitter Portkey Games says the company wants to give Hogwarts Legacy “the time it needs.” The company does not provide a further explanation, not even when the game should be released in 2022. Portkey Games is a label of publisher Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. This label is responsible for the Harry Potter games. Avalanche Software is the developer of the game and has mainly made Disney games in recent years.

Announced in September, Hogwarts Legacy is an open world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe of the 1800s. Gamers take on the role of a student who gradually learns more environments, potions and spells. According to the game’s website, the player holds the key to an ancient secret that has the potential to tear the wizarding world apart. The student can handle Ancient Magic, an unusual talent in the wizarding world. In the game, players can choose whether to embrace this or keep it a secret.

The game is largely set in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, although players can at least explore the immediate environment according to the trailer below. At the announcement, Portkey Games said the game will be available for the Xbox One, Series consoles, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and for PC.
