Publisher makes Carmen Sandiego game in Google Earth
The American publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Google have made a Google Earth version of Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego. Instead of pixelated maps and images, players will now see images from Google Earth.
The game can be played on desktops via Chrome and on iOS and Android. The interface on the right and the gameplay are very similar to the original game from 1985, but the sound is missing in this modern version. The goal is the same: players must track down Carmen Sandiego thanks to hints they get from people at famous places in world cities.
Google and the publisher have created the game to promote the Netflix series about Carmen Sandiego. The original game was released for the Apple II, MS-DOS and the Commodore 64, among others. More than four million copies of the original have been sold in total.
