PUBG will get crossplay for Xbox One and PS4 in early October
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will receive crossplay support on consoles beginning in October. That means players on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are no longer limited to playing against players on the same platform.
According to PUBG Corporation, crossplay at PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for the consoles is by far the most requested feature that players have been asking for. One of the producers of PUBG for the console, Koosung Jeong, said during a Gamescom episode of Inside Xbox that bringing the PS4 and Xbox One players together will increase the overall size of the matchmaking squad.
According to Cecilia Lee, the community manager at PUBG Corp., the first goal of the crossplay capability is to allow 100 players from both console communities to play together in the same round. The second goal was to shorten the time before a round can start. Due to the larger group of players, Lee expects that waiting times will decrease. Crossplay will be available sometime in early October and you can try it out on PUBG’s public test server at the end of September.
The developers are also introducing a new PUBG season for Xbox One starting August 27. Season 4 will include a visual update to the Erangel playing field and a new Survivor Pass to purchase to unlock over 100 rewards. Season 4 has been out on PC since July 24.
