PUBG update adds crossplay for Xbox One and PS4

PlayerUnknown’s Battegrounds players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 now have the ability to play against each other. With the arrival of patch 4.3, players from both consoles will be placed in the same group to start a game.

This change, which is available on the test servers in the form of patch 4.3, means that a larger pool of players can be used to start PUBG matches. The option to party with players from the other console is not yet supported; according to the developer, the development of this feature is planned and more details will be released later. It is unknown when that option will be available.

The so-called Cross Platform Party function, with which players on an Xbox One can end up in a round that also includes PlayStation 4 players, can be switched on or off in the main menu. Enabling this will increase the size of the group to start a round, which should lead to faster started rounds. Reducing the time before a round starts is one of the goals the creators want to achieve with the crossplay functionality. If no match can be found and the player has the Cross Platform Party feature turned off, they will be notified if they still want to turn the feature on.

Once in the game, it is clearly marked who is playing on the Xbox One and who is playing on the PlayStation 4. In the notification area about which players have taken down which enemies, the name of the players is represented by an Xbox or PlayStation symbol. The same goes for the leaderboard in the main menu, provided the Cross Platform Party feature is enabled.

Patch 4.3 was available for PC a week earlier; this means that apart from the crossplay functionality, the content from this patch is now also available on the consoles via the test servers. This concerns, for example, a survival progression system that awards experience points for actions other than shooting, which are also important for staying alive.
