PUBG Mobile Version Reaches 100 Million Downloads in 5 Months
The mobile version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has passed 100 million downloads and 14 million people play the game on their smartphone or tablet every day, publisher Tencent announced.
These numbers would not include users in China, Japan and Korea. It is not known what the figures for those regions look like. The Chinese Tencent reports the news to GameIndustry.biz, among others. The game has reached those numbers in a period of just under five months.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ biggest competitor, Fortnite: Battle Royale, hasn’t reached these kinds of numbers yet. That’s not surprising, since Fortnite is only widely available for iOS and the Android version has only just become available on a large scale.
Unlike the Xbox One and Windows versions, the mobile versions of the game are free to download. That’s an obvious explanation for breaking the records so easily that the game set at its peak last December. Nevertheless, 14 million daily active players means the wait for matchmaking shouldn’t be long.
Recently, PUBG Corp. announced that it is starting a campaign called ‘Fix PUBG’, which will run for several months and in which the developers will have to fix the biggest bugs and performance issues one after the other. The campaign even has an issue tracker. In addition, PUBG for Windows can also be found on e-sports platform FaceIt since this weekend, where the matches have 64 players and the circle moves slower and later than in the regular game. The latter is something that some players have been asking for for some time.
