PUBG Mobile Gets System Calling Young Players to Take a Break
Tencent, the Chinese internet giant and the publisher behind PUBG Mobile, is introducing a so-called gameplay management system. This means that players under the age of eighteen are called on to take breaks.
The system works by means of pop-ups that appear on the basis of certain time intervals. This calls on young players to stop playing or take a break. This system only applies to players under the age of eighteen; they must agree to this advisory system before starting the game.
Tencent reports that this system, which was introduced with patch 0.12.0, is already active in Indonesia, India, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Other countries and regions will follow at a later date. Incidentally, the system only applies in the international version of the mobile game. In China, PUBG Mobile has recently been exchanged for a Chinese patriotic alternative.
Vincent Wang of Tencent explains that his company wants players to make informed choices about how long they spend with the game and that this advisory system will lead to hundreds of millions of players enjoying PUBG Mobile in a sustainable way. He indicated that feedback on the system is being listened to and that adjustments can be made gradually on the basis of this. Whether this system will also be introduced in the PUBG version on PC and consoles is not clear.
