PUBG gets team deathmatch with respawns
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will have a regular team deathmatch mode, including respawns. Developer PUBG Corp. will release this new mode shortly as part of update 6.2.
The company says it will be a mode in which two teams, each with eight players, compete against each other. Seven playing fields are available for this, but the developer is going to release even more. PUBG Corp. has not designed new playing fields, but draws on the urban areas that are already part of the existing maps for the battle royale mode. The maps for the deathmatch mode are therefore small pieces of the existing playing fields, such as Campo Militar by Miramar or Stalber by Erangel. The first team to score fifty kills wins a round, and it takes two won rounds to win the match.
In the new mode, only a first-person perspective is available, and players can choose from various kits of weapons and equipment. Players who are eliminated can re-enter the playing field five seconds later and friendly fire is turned off. The respawn locations are near teammates if that location is safe, and players are invulnerable shortly after re-entering the battlefield. Players’ health regenerates automatically if they take no damage for five seconds, but that will reduce the amount of boost. That can be increased again by eliminating or contributing players, but this boost value does not allow for faster movement in team deathmatch mode.
Team deathmatch is part of Arcade, a new feature in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds that introduces new game types. It is possible that this mode eventually disappears, because the idea is that a rotation takes place, whereby new types are added and others can disappear. So there will be even more new modes for Arcade; the developer says he would like to receive feedback from players. The deathmatch mode is part of update 6.2 and will be available on the live servers soon, according to the developer.
