PUBG developer stops free Lite variant with lower system requirements

PUBG Corp. pulls the plug on PUBG Lite. That free version of the battleroyale game has been in beta in a number of countries since 2019. As of May 29, the game will no longer be playable. The developer has not given a reason for the closure.

The decision to discontinue PUBG Lite was made “after much deliberation,” according to the developer. It’s not clear why the project is being pulled, but the free PC version of PUBG hasn’t received any updates since early last year. In November last year, all the L-Coin system was removed from the game. This allowed players to buy in-game coins for a fee.

The game is no longer offered on the website lite.pubg.com and the developer lists April 29 as the end of service date. On May 29, player support will end and the game will no longer be playable. Until then, PUBG Lite will remain playable and players will be able to continue spending their previously purchased L-Coin.

PUBG Lite first came out as a limited test in Thailand in early 2019 and was later released worldwide. It is a standalone version with lower system requirements, which can also be played on, for example, laptops with only an integrated GPU. Only the PC version of PUBG Lite will disappear. PUBG Mobile Lite for Android will continue to exist.
