PS5 players complain about online problems with games after recent system update

Players on the PS5 are reporting problems connecting to the servers of various games. These include well-known games such as Call of Duty Vanguard, Elden Ring and FIFA22. The issues appear to be related to a system update that came out on Wednesday.

On Twitter, numerous PlayStation users report online problems and the inability to use the multiplayer portion of various PlayStation games. Also on malfunction website Down detector can be seen that the PlayStation Network is having problems over the course of Wednesday morning. Sony confirms on a status page that there are problems with different parts.

The developers of Elden Ring reported on the game’s Twitter account on Wednesday that the server maintenance for PlayStation and Steam will take longer. It maintenance for Steam has now been completed, but not yet for the PlayStation. This is primarily about regular maintenance for Elden Ring, but multiple players are reporting getting an error saying Sony servers are unable to verify the PlayStation Plus subscription. This subscription is necessary to play online.

Wednesday’s system update adds a number of innovations, such as the ability to form open and closed groups on the PS4 and PS5. Also for the PS5, Sony has added mono audio for headphones and made some interface improvements for the Game Base space and Trophy cards. In announcing this system update, Sony also announced that it will be adding VRR to the PS5 in the coming months.
