‘PS5 launch title Demon’s Souls won’t contain ray tracing after all’
Demon’s Souls will not have ray tracing, despite what has been previously claimed. That says Mexican LevelUp.com, which says it has spoken with Gavin Moore, the creative director of the game.
According to LevelUp, game studio BluePoint, which is developing the remake, states that the implementation of ray tracing simply entails certain costs and that the team wanted to ‘prioritize other elements’. It seems to be a matter of time constraints, but since the original article is in Spanish, it’s hard to say for sure. Sony spoke about the presence of ray tracing in the game in a blog post. Moore emphasizes in the interview that the PS5 is “fully capable of doing it.” Sony also puts it prominently as a possibility.
The blog post further states that the game will get a 4k mode and a mode that has ‘a higher frame rate target’. It is not clear what the frame rate of the first and the resolution and frame rate of the second will be. Other PS5 titles that will use ray tracing include Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Witcher 3, and Watch Dogs Legion. The latter only does that in a 4k30 mode. Ray tracing is also mentioned on the Ratchet & Clank product page and not Demon’s Souls, which adds credibility to the LevelUp claims.
The Demon’s Souls remake and the PS5 will be released on November 12, but Europe will get the console on November 19.
