‘PS5 controller has 56 percent higher battery capacity than PS4 controller’
The DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 contains a battery with a capacity of 1560mAh. That shows a Twitter user holding a copy. Sony’s DualShock 4 controllers contain 1000mAh and 800mAh batteries
Twitter user @ galaxyrain666 shows photos and says to have had a short hands-on session with the controller. One of the pictures would show the battery, with a capacity of 1560mAh. This means that the battery capacity of the new controller is at least 56 percent higher than that of PS4 controllers, but whether that also results in one and a half times longer battery life is not certain. The DualSense controller has other innovations, such as a built-in microphone and improved haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
The DualShock 4 controllers of the PlayStation 4 have a relatively short battery life, of about four to eight hours, depending on the condition of the battery and use. The first PS4 controllers have an 800mAh battery, the V2 version of the DualShock 4 contains a 1000mAh battery.
The DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 also has a built-in battery, but with a higher capacity. Microsoft does not use a fixed battery in its Xbox controllers. Users can install two AA batteries or purchase an optional battery. The battery life of Xbox controllers can be more than 20 hours depending on the batteries or battery used.
