ProtonMail releases version 4.0 with new design and persistent session
Proton will bring ProtonMail 4.0 to all users on Tuesday. With this upgrade, the mail service has a new design, there is more customization, there is an undo-send option and users remain logged in to the mail service even after closing the browser.
The developer writes on Reddit that the update will come to all users during the day. With the update, ProtonMail gets a ‘new and modern’ design based on Proton’s new design language. In the new design, users can choose from different layouts and themes to customize the mail app to their liking. The new version has a dark mode theme, for example.
ProtonMail 4.0 also gets new keyboard shortcuts, filters, subfolders and an App selector to switch between different Proton services. Users can also preview attached PDF and image files before opening them. Users can also recall emails with an undo button if they have been sent accidentally and the new ProtonMail should load faster.
Finally, there is a calendar integration to respond to invitations directly from an email, there is an encrypted address book and users can remain logged in to the ProtonMail service via a persistent session, even if they close their browser. ProtonMail is a mail service known for security; Proton emphasizes that even with version 4.0, emails remain end-to-end encrypted.
