ProtonMail Releases Beta of Encrypted Calendar App for Paying Users
The encrypted mail service ProtonMail has released a beta of its new calendar service. ProtonCalendar has been in development for some time, but can now be tested by paying users.
ProtonCalendar is a fully end-to-end encrypted calendar application that uses the same encryption as the Swiss company’s email service. For now, the service will only allow users to add and remove events and have them reappear daily, weekly or monthly. Users can also set reminders in the app.
ProtonMail plans to add other features during the beta period, such as calendar sharing with other ProtonMail users. It is now only possible to send invitations to other ProtonMail users, but in the future this should be possible to everyone.
The agenda can only be used via the browser for the time being. An iOS and an Android app will also be released in 2020, but when is not known. Initially, only paying ProtonMail users can test the app. “Once ProtonCalendar becomes publicly available, a basic version will also be available to all ProtonMail users, including those who don’t pay. Paying users will then receive additional functionality,” the company wrote.
