The creators of the secure email service ProtonMail have added a feature to their service in response to a question from the series creators Mr. Robot. They lacked a certain function that the main character would like to have in a mail client.

In the series, protagonist Elliot uses an ‘account access log’ in ProtonMail, in which he can look up when an attempt has been made to log in to his account. However, that function did not exist at all, after which the makers of ProtonMail added it this week. Other mail services, such as Gmail and Microsoft Outlook.com, have had this feature for some time.

According to the developers of the mail service, which the protagonist will also use in the second season, it is the first time that makers of a TV series have influence on the development of a security service. ProtonMail claims to have several hundred thousand users. The first season of Mr Robot, a series about a New York hacker, is still running and the final episode will air next week.
