Promotional video showcases HTC Vive smartphone
A promotional video from HTC that has been put online by smartphone insider Evan Blass shows a device with the Vive brand name on it. The video also suggests that HTC will come up with a service for personalizing the appearance of phones.
It is not clear exactly what functionality the HTC Vive phone has. It may be a smartphone that can handle Google’s Daydream platform for virtual reality. Only the back of the device can be seen in the video.
The promotional video posted by @evleaks on Twitter published shows that it should become possible to have telephones fitted with a different color or design. Different materials and textures can be used.
HTC recently sent invitations to the press for an announcement that will take place on January 12. The invitation says ‘for U’. It is possible that HTC will introduce a service for personalizing phones on that date. Because the HTC Vive smartphone is also shown in the video, it seems likely that that phone will also be announced.
AndroidAuthority notes that the video was originally published on Vimeo back in June, by Shaun Saperstein. According to his LinkedIn page, he works at HTC as a video maker. The video has since been removed from Saperstein and Vimeo’s website.
